WDI: Oklahoma City as a Model

Wilmington Downtown Inc WDI LogoJane Jenkins, President and CEO of Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc. will be the Keynote Speaker for the “Oklahoma City as a Model” event on Thursday, December 4, 2014.

Ms. Jenkins will discuss the Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS) process and how the program has reshaped Downtown Oklahoma City and the entire community. Ms. Jenkins has led the revitalization effort in Oklahoma City since 2009. She previously directed efforts to redevelop Downtown Boulder, Colorado and has also served as the chair of the International Downtown Association.

Jane Jenkins Bio Photo Downtown Oklahoma CityJane Jenkins was selected as the President & CEO of Downtown OKC, Inc. (DOKC), a non-profit organization in January of 2009. Downtown OKC, Inc. is an organization that serves to promote, market, and develop downtown Oklahoma City alongside numerous downtown businesses and stakeholders.  Prior to joining DOKC, Ms. Jenkins served as the Executive Director of the Downtown Boulder Business Improvement District (DBBID) from 2000 to 2009 as the first director in the organization’s history. Jane is respected by her peers for her hard work, dedication and respect for the focus and effort required to establish flourishing downtown communities.

Under Ms. Jenkins leadership, Downtown Oklahoma City has undergone massive change since 2009, and most of which is touted as incredibly impressive by many. Downtown OKC is regarded as more nimble and is viewed as the central theme for the Downtown Oklahoma City community. Ms. Jenkins has brought her leadership and expertise to Downtown Oklahoma City and has created a reputation for capability as it relates to starting trends, launching new festivals, and bringing life to forgotten sections of the urban core.

Downtown Boulder implemented a consistent brand identity and maintained a 95 percent retail occupancy rate. Jenkins has consulted with numerous downtown programs across the United States and Canada through her role with International Downtown Association (IDA), serving as the Chair for multiple terms.

Jenkins holds a bachelor’s degree in communication arts education from Oral Roberts University and a master’s in public administration from the University of North Texas. She taught secondary school in Chandler and Tulsa before beginning her downtown management career in Wagoner as the Main Street manager. After serving in the same capacity in Pawhuska, Jenkins moved to Denton, Texas, where she managed the downtown development program for eight years before joining the staff of the National Trust for Historic Preservation as the regional director of the Southwest Office in Fort Worth, Texas.

Event Details:

Tickets are $15 per person. Tables of 8 are available for purchase for $250 if purchased prior to November 21, 2014. Following November 21, 2014, individual tickets are available for $20 per person. Tables of 8 will be available for $300 after November 21. Tickets can be purchased at the Wilmington Downtown Inc (WDI) office or are available to purchase online here.
