Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer

Point and shoot. It’s that easy right? Wedding photography may seem simple enough; however, it’s important to ask your wedding photographer these questions before you book. Below is our list of questions to ask your wedding photographer to ensure each jovial moment is captured.

1. What wedding photography experience do you have?

Photography experience is great – but it takes a specific skillset in wedding photography to do the job right. Make sure your photographer has a portfolio. Review their work and see if you like it. Past projects are reflective of what the photographer can do for you, so taking their other work into consideration is important. Experience also includes their collaborative efforts with videographers, DJs, and other wedding team members.

2. What does my photography package include?

Get in writing what exactly your package includes. Is there a travel fee and is it covered in the package? What about engagement photos? Is there a cancellation policy? The list of fiscal questions goes on – we suggest you and your spouse write down any burning questions before meeting with the photographer.

3. What happens if you can’t shoot my wedding?

Things happen. Your photographer may become severely ill right before the special day and many photographers don’t have a backup plan. Reputable wedding photographers will have a second photographer to back them up – some even have an expansive network of photographers to utilize.

4. What equipment or space do you need?

Some photographers may require certain wedding modifications to shoot effectively. Keep in mind that photography equipment can take up quite a bit of space. Asking this question with your wedding venue in mind can save your guests from tripping over expensive equipment or feeling claustrophobic.
