New Hotel in Downtown Wilmington

There is big news coming to downtown Wilmington and the Coastline Conference and Event Center. Developers have been in talks with the city and are planning to add a new hotel space atop the Coastline Conference and Event Center, along the Cape Fear River.

New Additions to the Coastline Conference and Event Center

A broker with Creative Commercial Properties, Jim Quinn, wrote a press release providing the details to this new addition. Quinn states that the operators of the Best Western Coastline Inn, Poteat Hospitality Associates LLC and Big Dawg LLC, have officially been approved to bring the newest Aloft Hotel to downtown Wilmington. This project is an extension of the Starwood Hotel franchise and is currently set to begin in early-to-mid 2016.

The Coastline Convention Center is known for being one of the prime destinations for hosting weddings in downtown Wilmington. This space has also hosted countless business conferences and military balls in years past. Most recently, the city feels that this elegant space has missed out on potential bookings due to the lack of available rooms. This addition will bring an additional 125-rooms to the new hotel space. The current models forecast a six-story hotel that would stretch above the historic Coastline Rail Road Warehouse. This first class facility will feature an outdoor pool as well as a rooftop courtyard with a bistro and a fire pit. At floor level there will be a fitness center and a full-service restaurant that could even cater meetings and conferences that the Coastline Conference and Event Center hosts.

Convention Center Brings Promise to Downtown Wilmington

There is currently around 13,000 square feet of meeting space at the Coastline Center and a minimum of 7,000 square feet will remain available for meetings/conferences during the construction process. Quinn stated that the current 54 rooms at the Best Western next-door will also continue to remain open. Wilmington’s Mayor, Bill Saffo, believes Wilmington will benefit greatly from this hotel wants to make sure the Convention Center capitalizes on this opportunity.

“The new Convention Center has been somewhat handicapped by a lack of convenient guest rooms adjacent to the center, and they may have missed out on some of the more lucrative conventions,” said Saffo.

The hope is to have this hotel built by the Wells Fargo Championship golf tournament coming up in May of 2017. Construction like this is indicative of the continual growth the Wilmington area is experiencing and paints a promising picture for the future.
